Stamp Duty

Stamp duty is levied at various rates on documents such as bills of exchange, promissory notes, insurance policies, contracts effecting transfer of shares, debenture, and conveyances for transfer of immovable property. Stamp duties on property vary from state to state and range from 4% to 15%, while for share transactions; they are standardized at 0.25%.
